MEMBERSHIP
There are many benefits offered to both the breed and the club members from membership in a breed club. A club offers a venue in which dogs may be exhibited and judged according to the breed standard and it offers club members an opportunity to keep up with the latest breed news, meet people who share a love for the same breed of dog and to learn from one another.
Founded in 1954, the United States Lakeland Terrier Club, Inc (USLTC) is the parent club of the breed in the United States and is the official spokes-organization for the breed with the American Kennel Club.
The United States Lakeland Terrier Club promotes the pure-bred Lakeland Terrier by encouraging the exhibiting of Lakelands at shows and performance events throughout the United States. It offers trophies and sponsors specialty shows, fosters fellowship and good sportsmanship among dog lovers. Activities and educational programs are developed through the interest of Club members. The USLTC has printed pamphlets about the Lakeland Terrier and his training and care. These publications, and other materials, are available for sale from the Secretary. The USLTC endeavors to give assistance to all those who seek it.
USLTC Objectives
- To encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure-bred Lakeland Terriers and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection.
- To encourage the organization of independent local Lakeland Terrier specialty clubs in those localities where there is sufficient fanciers of the breed to meet the requirements of the American Kennel club.
- To urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Lakeland Terriers shall be judged.
- To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience and agility trials, field and hunting events, and other types of performance competitions; and to support rescue/adoption activities.
